Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart took time out from his busy schedule to compete in a UMP Super Late Model event at Paducah International Raceway on Thursday, April 23. Stewart, along with J.D.
Byrider Racing team mate Steve Barnett, both ran well that evening, finishing first and third respectively in their early heat race. In the 25-lap feature, Stewart took the lead on lap one and proceeded to lead every lap. “It’s good to get a win at this track and in
this car,” Stewart said. “We’ve been close a couple of times before and tonight we got it.”
Barnett worked his way up from fifth to third, but was slowed by lapped traffic on the final lap and wound up fifth. “I’m excited about the way our J.D. Byrider team cars ran tonight,” Barnett said. I should’ve had third, but this effort will make the drive home a lot happier.”
J.D. Byrider has sponsored Tony Stewart in a dirt late model since 1997, and the relationship has grown to also include an associate sponsorship on the Tony Stewart Racing owned #20 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider Chevy World of Outlaws sprint car driven by Kraig Kinser. Byrider is als
o involved on Stewart’s three other open-wheel race teams that compete in the World of Outlaws and USAC Sprint and Midget series.
“We changed the design of our car this year, along with the look of Tony’s firesuit, to fit with Tony’s transition to being an owner-driver on the NASCAR level. We even changed the number on our car to 14, to provide continuity with the Stewart-Haas Racing team’
s #14 sponsored by Office Depot and Old Spice,” said Jim England, president of The J.D. Byrider Advertising Group, Inc. “Tonight was the first time he’s raced our new design and it’s great to get a win. I take my hat off to Tony and the people in his organizations for having
done such a fantastic job of building great relationships with great brands such as Coca-Cola, Bass Pro Shops, Armor All, Chevy, and others. The teams at Stewart-Haas Racing and Tony Stewart Racing are loaded with quality people and we’re proud to be part of the program.”
J.D. Byrider, celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, specializes in providing good cars for people who need credit.
